Tuesday, June 1st, 2010: May's #1 Batter Announced
When Carlos Gonzalez stepped up to the plate in May, he did it with confidence and today he was honored with the American League Batter of the Month award.

The young Texas right fielder posted a .352 batting average with 8 home runs, 29 RBIs and scored 22 runs. Gonzalez also worked pitchers for 12 walks to post a .410 on-base percentage.

To date, Gonzalez has collected 68 hits for a .321 average. He has posted 10 home runs, scored 32 runs and driven in 43 runs.
Monday, May 31st, 2010: 5-6 Day for Bruce
Jay Bruce exploded for a barrage of base hits today at Safeco Field. The Seattle center fielder had a field day in the 16-13 triumph over the Texas Rangers, finishing with a 5-6 day and a spot in the league record book.

"My hitting philosophy is pretty simple," he said. "I focus on just seeing the ball and I try to get a good pitch."

Well, Bruce must have focused at least 5 times and apparently got some good pitches, too. It was one of his best days ever with the bat.

J. Bruce hit an RBI double in the 1st, struck out in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off T. Mastny in the 5th, singled in the 7th, singled in the 9th and hit a GRAND SLAM off F. Francisco in the 10th.

In 51 games this season Bruce has batted at a .275 pace with 57 hits and 12 home runs.
Monday, May 31st, 2010: Rangers Iwase Out Rest Of Season
Texas closer Hitoki Iwase could miss the remainder of the season because of a ruptured bicep tendon. He exited yesterday's Seattle game after injuring himself while throwing a pitch. The original diagnosis said Iwase would be out 8 months. Later on his doctors said he could be out even longer.

"He's done," his manager commented at the BNN press conference. "It's a season-ending injury, but it could have been worse. It's not the worst-case scenario, so we're happy about that."

This year in 18 relief appearances, Iwase has collected 4 saves while posting an ERA of 1.88 and 23 strikeouts in 24 innings. His totals for the year also include no wins and 2 losses.
