| Breaking News | | Sunday, May 23rd, 2010: Crawford Slaps 5 Hits After the Oakland 8-7 victory over San Francisco and his 5-hit day center fielder Carl Crawford told BNN beat writers, "It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college ball, two hits in a game is very good... three or four hits even better... 5 or more are out of sight... and if it is in pro ball... it is really something special. It will get you in the record books."
The 28-year-old player gained that distinction today at McAfee Coliseum with a spectacular 5 for 6 game against the San Francisco Giants.
The skipper of the Athletics spoke glowingly of Crawford, telling BNN writers, "His swing is getting there. We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Carl did that to perfection today."
C. Crawford struck out in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit an RBI double in the 6th, singled in the 8th and hit a solo-shot off V. Chulk in the 11th.
This season Crawford has delivered 57 hits in 192 at-bats for a .297 average with 2 home runs. He is getting on base at a .327 clip and his totals also include 12 RBIs and 21 runs scored. This year Crawford has played in 42 games. | | Monday, May 10th, 2010: Lind Goes 5-5 Adam Lind exploded for a barrage of base hits today at Rogers Centre. The Toronto left fielder had a field day in the 11-2 triumph over the Oakland Athletics, finishing with a 5-5 day and a spot in the league record book.
"My hitting philosophy is pretty simple," he said. "I focus on just seeing the ball and I try to get a good pitch."
Well, Lind must have focused at least 5 times and apparently got some good pitches, too. It was one of his best days ever with the bat.
A. Lind hit an RBI single in the 1st, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 7th and singled in the 8th.
Lind is swinging at a .250 pace on the year with 4 home runs, 18 RBIs and 12 runs scored. He has played in 30 games. | | Monday, May 3rd, 2010: Bankston and Day Suspended 3 Games For Brawl During a recent Oakland-Chicago (A) game at McAfee Coliseum, Wes Bankston of the Athletics and Dewon Day of the White Sox got into an altercation on the field and had to be separated from each other as the benches emptied. Both players knew they would have to face the music and today the league commissioner's office announced their punishments. They have been given 3-game suspensions because of their actions.
This year Bankston is batting .382 with 6 home runs and 23 RBIs.
So far this season Day has picked up no saves in 8 relief appearances. He has also compiled a 0-0 won-lost mark with a 3.38 ERA and fanned 6 batters in 8 innings. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | P Jamie Richmond | tender shoulder | 2 days | Not on DL | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 25-26, .490 PCT | | Position in Division | 4th, 5.5 GB | | Record at home | 12-11, .522 PCT | | Record on the road | 13-15, .464 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 2-4, .333 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 7-2, .778 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 5-7, .417 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 20-19, .513 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 7-3, .700 PCT | | Record in April | 10-12, .455 PCT | | Record in May | 15-14, .517 PCT |
