Bartolo García is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest National League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.
In May the Milwaukee hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .283 average with 32 hits, 3 home runs and 13 RBIs.
For the season, García is hitting at a .327 clip with 6 home runs, 23 RBIs and has scored 40 runs. He has 50 hits, 24 walks and a .418 on-base percentage.

May's Batter of the Month has been announced by the National League. This month's trophy was presented to the Milwaukee first baseman, Prince Fielder.
He starred by hitting .344 with a .450 on-base percentage, totaled 31 hits in 90 at-bats, 13 home runs, 27 RBIs and scored 22 runs.
Fielder is presently hitting at a .333 pace with 17 home runs, 44 RBIs and has scored 39 times.

Gil Meche pitched a strong game in blanking the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-0, allowed no runs on 3 hits, totaled 4 strikeouts and gave up no walks.
The Milwaukee manager said he could tell right away it was going to be a good game for Meche. "Right from the start, you could see how economical he was," he said. "He threw a lot of strikes."
In pitching stats this season Meche has rung up 5 wins and 1 loss in 10 games. He has an ERA of 2.37 and has fanned 48 batters in 64.2 innings.
