Friday, April 23rd, 2010: Peavy Tosses Shutout
Jake Peavy of the San Diego Padres whitewashed the Florida Marlins 3-0 in a complete-game win, limiting them to 4 hits while chalking up 7 strikeouts and giving up 1 walk.

Talking to BNN writers after the game, his manager said, "He's got the makeup. He's not afraid to challenge guys. Jake is pretty poised out there. He knows how to pitch and how to use his stuff."

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010: Career Over for Uggla, Major Injury
The Florida Marlins clubhouse was subdued this afternoon after Dan Uggla was seriously injured throwing the ball during the game against the Philadelphia Phillies. Uggla was taken to a local hospital for examination. This morning, doctors confirmed the preliminary diagnosis of a ruptured bicep tendon. They said Uggla will undergo surgery in the near future. This type of injury, they said, will require extensive rehabilitation. For all intents and purposes, his career in baseball is over.

It remains to be seen how Uggla's loss will affect the rest of the team. The Marlins owner, when reached for comment, said he planned to visit Uggla later today. "It's a sad day for us," he said. "We've lost a class individual. I hope that we can keep him in our organization in some capacity. Dan still has a lot to contribute to our baseball team."

Thursday, March 4th, 2010: Miller Re-ups with Marlins for 3 years
At a midafternoon press conference, Florida Marlins officials flanked Justin Miller and announced they had reached an extension with the 32-year-old reliever.

Terms include a $8,280,000 salary distributed over 3 years.

To date Miller's career stats show a 30-17 record with 5 saves and an ERA of 4.84. He has fanned 419 opposing hitters and held them to a .258 average.
