| Breaking News | _White_Sox.png) | Sunday, May 16th, 2010: Weaver Cracks 5 Hits It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-6 day. It may only come around once in a career -- a lot of players never have one -- but Kevin Weaver got one today. He scattered hits all over U.S. Cellular Field to pace Chicago (A) to a 13-2 victory over Detroit.
The Detroit skipper told reporters in the press room, "Tip your hat to him. He hit some good pitches. According to the scouting report, Weaver hit several that he is not supposed to hit."
K. Weaver hit an RBI double in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, hit a two-run double in the 6th, hit a three-run double in the 7th and struck out in the 9th.
A look at his season totals shows Weaver with 5 home runs, .293 BA, .343 OBP, 28 RBIs and 19 runs scored. | | Thursday, May 13th, 2010: Red-Hot Guillen Scorches Rangers It was a hits blitz for Carlos Guillen at Comerica Park. The Detroit Tigers first baseman tore into Texas for 5 hits in 5 at-bats to pace the Tigers to a 6-3 victory and wrote his name into the baseball record book.
The manager for the Rangers bemoaned his pitching, saying, "We fell behind and weren't locating well. Once you get behind in the count, you have to make real good pitches, rather than good pitches, and we weren't able to do that today." He added, "Not to take anything away from Guillen, but bad location was the story of the ballgame. That's why we lost the game."
C. Guillen singled in the 1st, hit a two-run double in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off J. Benoit in the 9th.
In 2010 Guillen is batting .324 with 7 home runs. | | Monday, May 3rd, 2010: Granderson Suffers Injury Detroit fans will be disappointed to learn that Curtis Granderson developed fractured ribs while making a defensive play in today's game. After the doctor informed the Detroit Tigers manager that Granderson was expected to miss 3 weeks, the manager told the press that the rest of the team would have to step up their play until the center fielder could return. "You can't make excuses in baseball, because there's always a game tomorrow," said the team's skipper.
So far this year Granderson is batting .309 with 2 home runs, 9 RBIs and 9 runs scored. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 27-22, .551 PCT | | Position in Division | 2nd, 4.0 GB | | Record at home | 15-10, .600 PCT | | Record on the road | 12-12, .500 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 4-3, .571 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 13-10, .565 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 7-5, .583 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 20-17, .541 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 4-6, .400 PCT | | Record in April | 12-9, .571 PCT | | Record in May | 15-13, .536 PCT |
