Baseball fans are getting excited as players begin to prepare for the regular season. The aches and pains of last season have finally healed and now it is time for players to work their way back into shape. Young players and team newcomers will fight to prove themselves as front offices across the country try to decide who will be on that Opening Day roster. The preseason is all about making tough choices and that process begins today. | _White_Sox.png) | Friday, September 18th, 2009: Weaver Tops Best Hitter List Kevin Weaver, the outstanding Bristol first baseman, certainly made an impression on Appalachian League pitchers this past season. He pummeled them for 62 hits in 173 at-bats, 15 doubles, no triples, 4 home runs, 29 RBIs and scored 46 times.
That standout hitting earned him the Appalachian League APPY MVP for 2009.
This weekend Weaver will be honored by the SION Baseball Writers Association at its annual awards dinner. |  | Thursday, September 17th, 2009: Top APPY Pitcher Announced In 2009, the premier pitcher in the Appalachian League was Máximo Fraire. The Aberdeen starter is this year's recipient of the APPY Pitcher of the Year.
In his standout year he went 9-1 in 11 starts with 50 strikeouts in 80.2 innings and an impressive 2.01 ERA.
The SBWA will present his award to Fraire at the group's annual awards dinner this weekend. | | | | |
