What will 2010 hold in store? We will soon find out as the preseason begins today. Fans are still buzzing about their favorite team's offseason moves. Coaches are perusing the newly unveiled season schedule and players around the Northwest League are starting to get their minds set on the long grind ahead. It might just be the preseason, but baseball is in the air!
Sunday, October 4th, 2009: Great Year Gets Valentine NWL NWL MVP
It was a season to remember for Dean Valentine -- and one for opposing pitchers to forget. The second baseman for Salem-Keizer has claimed the 2009 NWL MVP after tearing up the league with a .329 batting average.

Valentine rang up 114 hits, 22 doubles, 4 triples, 5 home runs, 49 RBIs and 67 runs scored. He also posted a .385 on-base percentage in his award-winning season.

The annual SBWA awards dinner is this weekend. All of the major award winners will be there to receive their trophies for their outstanding achievements this past season.
Saturday, October 3rd, 2009: NWL Pitcher of the Year Winner Announced
The NWL Pitcher of the Year has been presented and the Northwest League victor is Boise relief ace, Paul McKee. For his solid outings in 2009 he has been named the league's premier pitcher.

During the season, McKee excelled with 14 saves in 15 save opportunities, a 2.22 ERA and 4 wins and 2 losses. In 28.1 innings he struck out 26 and gave up 24 hits and 9 walks.

All of the league award winners will be recognized this weekend at the SBWA annual dinner.
