John Roberts hated to see May turn to June.
And who could blame him?
The 22-year-old hurler piled up 6 wins and 1 loss for the Blue Claws last month and won the South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Month award for his efforts.
Roberts stymied opposing batters on 38 base hits and a .208 batting average. He rang up 50 strikeouts in 49.2 innings of work, surrendered 15 walks and fashioned a sparkling 3.08 ERA.
In 12 starts this season Roberts has chalked up a 9-2 record and a 3.00 ERA.

Hot-hitting first baseman Rob Morris of the Sand Gnats really pounded South Atlantic League pitchers in May, winning the Batter of the Month award.
He hit .351 with 6 home runs, 24 RBIs, 23 runs scored and 8 walks to finish with a .402 on-base percentage.
Morris is currently batting .351 with 6 home runs and 36 RBIs.

Today the Power downed the Blue Claws 8-7 as Alexis Gomez sprayed hits all over Appalachian Power Park in a 5-hit explosion, finishing with 5 hits in 8 at-bats.
The West Virginia center fielder said to reporters in the postgame interview, "It makes it easier if you get a good pitch. The odds are in your favor then, not the pitcher's. I got a bunch of very pretty pitches to hit today and I didn't miss any of them."
A. Gomez flied out in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, grounded out in the 7th, singled in the 10th, doubled in the 12th, hit a two-run home run off N. Evangelista in the 14th and grounded out in the 16th.
Looking at his 2010 season stats, Gomez has compiled a .339 batting average in 28 games with a .401 on-base percentage, while hitting 3 home runs and driving in 12 runs.
