Christian Garcia took a much-deserved turn in the spotlight earlier today as he accepted the International League Pitcher of the Month award for May.
The 24-year-old Yankees starter is a relative newcomer to the league, but nonetheless racked up an impressive 5-1 won-lost record in 6 starts. He has fanned 25 batters in 46 innings and sports a 1.17 ERA.
This season Garcia has a 7-2 record with a 1.70 ERA.

Welinson Baez put together a good May to earn the International League Batter of the Month prize. A virtual unknown, he made the most of his chance to prove to Ottawa officials that he belongs on the big league roster.
The Lynx third baseman posted a .289 batting average with 7 home runs, 28 RBIs and 20 runs scored.
Baez has a .268 average and a .329 on-base percentage for the year. He has picked up 52 hits, 8 home runs and driven in 40 runs.
